Cachalot
(Physeter macrocephalus)
Found in oceans worldwide, the Cachalot — more commonly known as the Sperm Whale — is the largest toothed predator on Earth and possesses the most powerful biological sound-producing apparatus of any animal. It uses focused clicks for echolocation, but there is a compelling and genuinely unnerving theory that its most intense vocalizations — the "big click" — may be powerful enough to stun or even incapacitate prey at close range. Recordings have measured clicks at up to 230 decibels, and researchers believe a direct burst at close range could theoretically disorient a human diver!
