Earless Monitor.jpg

Found only in the rainforests of Borneo, the Earless Monitor Lizard is one of the most enigmatic reptiles in the world — a small, semi-aquatic lizard with no external ear openings, a flattened tail for swimming, and a biology so unusual that it occupies its own distinct family with no close living relatives.

Despite being known to science since 1877, it remains so rarely encountered and so poorly studied that basic details of its behaviour and ecology are still largely unknown!
