Electric Clam
(Ctenoides ales)

Found in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific, the Electric Clam — also known as the Disco Clamdoes not actually produce electricity despite its name. What appears to be flashing light, as seen in the gif below, is actually caused by two types of tissue along its mantle rapidly alternating in and out of view — one highly reflective, one light-absorbing — creating a strobing effect. The exact purpose of this display is still debated, but it may be used to deter predators or attract the tiny organisms it feeds on!
