Flashlight Fish
(Varies by Species)
Found in tropical and subtropical oceans, the Flashlight Fish has a large light-producing organ beneath each eye, filled with bioluminescent bacteria that glow continuously. To "switch" the light off it rotates the organ downward like a biological eyelid, and it uses this blinking to communicate, attract prey, and confuse predators. Some species have been observed swimming in coordinated blinking patterns at night, producing an effect that resembles a field of tiny, moving stars!
