Garden Eel
(Heteroconger hassi)

Found in the sandy shallows of tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide, Garden Eels live almost their entire lives anchored in individual burrows on the seafloor — lining them with a sticky mucus that sets like cement to stop the sand from caving in. Colonies can number in the hundreds, and the sight of them all swaying gently generally in the same direction in the current together is exactly what gives them their name — a living, waving garden on the ocean floor!
