Found across North and Central America, the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter is a leafhopper insect that feeds by tapping into plant xylem — a fluid so low in nutrients that it must drink enormous quantities to survive, processing hundreds of times its own body weight in liquid daily. As the gif below shows, this results in the insect firing droplets of liquid from its rear at high speeds which earned it the name — sharpshooter!
