Golden Viscacha Rat
(Pipanacoctomys aureus)

Found in the arid highlands of Argentina, the Golden Viscacha Rat is a small, critically endangered rodent with a remarkable genetic distinction. It belongs to a group of closely related rodents whose genomes have expanded to a staggering size — nearly two and a half times larger than the human genome, making them the largest of any mammal by a considerable margin.
