Hagfish
(Varies by Species)

Found in cold ocean waters worldwide, the Hagfish is one of the most ancient and resilient animals on Earth — a jawless, nearly blind scavenger that has remained largely unchanged. When threatened it releases a remarkable defense: an enormous cloud of thick, stringy slime that expands in water and can clog the gills of attacking fish. A single Hagfish can produce enough slime to fill a bucket within minutes, and the slime itself is being studied for its extraordinary tensile strength — comparable in some properties to spider silk!
