Found across tropical regions worldwide, the Jacana walks across floating vegetation on extraordinarily long toes that distribute its weight so broadly it appears to walk on water. Its approach to parenting is equally remarkable — it is the male who incubates the eggs and raises the chicks, and when danger threatens he gathers them up and carries them tucked under his wings with just their legs dangling visibly beneath him, walking off as though nothing unusual is happening!
