Found in tropical regions of Africa, South Asia, and the Pacific, the Jewel Wasp performs precise neurosurgery on cockroaches. It delivers two venom injections — the first to temporarily paralyze the front legs, the second directly into the cockroach's escape reflex region of the brain, not to kill it but to remove its motivation to run. The cockroach remains alive but docile as the wasp leads it by the antennae to a burrow, lays an egg on it, and seals it inside as a fresh, living meal for the larva!
