Tiger Beetle
(Varies by Species)
Found on every continent except Antarctica, the Tiger Beetle is arguably the fastest running insect on Earth relative to its size, reaching speeds equivalent to a human running at 480 kilometres per hour. It actually runs so fast that it temporarily goes blind — its eyes cannot process images quickly enough at top speed — and it must stop periodically to re-orientate itself before sprinting again. A ferocious predator, it chases down prey with a combination of speed, powerful mandibles, and remarkable agility!
