Titan Beetle
(Titanus giganteus)

Found in the rainforests of the Amazon Basin, the Titan Beetle is one of the largest insects in the world, with some individuals reaching over 16 centimeters in length.

Its mandibles are powerful enough to snap a pencil in two — and reportedly to cut into human flesh if mishandled.

Despite its fearsome size, adults are thought not to eat at all — they live only long enough to find a mate, fueled entirely by the energy reserves built up during their larval stage, which has never actually been observed in the wild!
