Yeti Crab
(Kiwa puravida)
Found near cold seeps on the seafloor off Costa Rica, the Yeti Crab is a blind, pale crab covered in dense, hair-like filaments called setae — giving it the appearance of a tiny fur coat.
Rather than hunting, it farms — waving its claws rhythmically through chemical-rich water to cultivate the bacteria that grow on its setae, which it then harvests and eats. It is, in essence, a crab that runs its own microscopic garden!
