Bird Nest Fungi
(Crucibulum laeve)
Found on decaying wood and plant matter across the world, Bird's Nest Fungi are among the most architecturally extraordinary organisms on the planet. Each tiny cup — resembling a miniature bird's nest complete with eggs — is actually a fruiting body, with the "eggs" being packets of spores called peridioles.
When raindrops strike the cup at the right angle, they launch the peridioles into the air on sticky threads that catch on nearby vegetation, spreading spores as the gif below shows!
