Blue Sea Dragon
(Glaucus atlanticus)
Found all over the worlds oceans in temperate and tropical climates.
Grows up to 3cm (1.2in) long
Feeds on other Pelagic Creatures including the Portuguese Man O' War and other venomous Siphonophores
Lives up to 1 year.
This sea slug makes use of countershading as a form of camouflage! Its blue on one side and silvery on the other side so that it blends in depending on if you are looking at it from above or below!
These finger like structures (cerata) are not just for moving! When this sea slug feeds on venomous sea creatures like the Portuguese man o' war, it stores its nematocysts into its own tissue as a painful method of defense!
