Bunny Harvestman

Bunny Harvestman
(Metagryne bicolumnata)

Native to the Amazon Rainforest, specifically by Ecuador.

Ranges from 6 - 13mm (0.25 – 0.5in).

Feeds on small Insects, Fungi, and rotting organic matter of all kinds.

Lives for about 1 year, though harvestmen sometimes live up to 2 years in warmer climates.

No one is sure what its prominent “bunny head” is used for but there are some theories! The most prominent is that it’s used to confuse predators but it may serve as a sensory structure or even a chemical defence as harvestmen are known for releasing foul smelling liquids to ward off predators.
