Comb Jelly
(Varies by species)
They are found in seawaters all over the world.
Depending on species they range from a few millimetres to 1.5m (5ft) long.
Feeds on Zooplankton, tiny Crustaceans, and the Larvae of various Invertebrates and Fish.
Lives for a few weeks to several months. In captivity some have been kept for over a year.
When injured, some species of Comb Jellies have been observed fusing together to form a single organism! Their bodies, nervous system, and digestive tracts are fused together with no immune rejection.

Comb Jellies have an interesting relationship with bioluminescence! Surface dwelling ones are usually colorless and transparent. Some have red stomachs so that the bioluminescent creatures they eat can’t be seen. A lot have an almost rainbow like effect as seen pictured here which is not actual bioluminescence but a scattering of light. And some produce bioluminescent ink with a similar wavelength to their own bodies.
