Dallol Acid Lake
(Danakil Depression, Ethiopia)
Located in the Danakil Depression of Ethiopia, Dallol is one of the most alien landscapes on Earth — a hyperacidic, hypersaline hydrothermal field of bubbling yellow sulfur pools, neon green acid lakes, and salt formations that look like they belong on another planet.
At an average elevation of 130 meters below sea level, it is one of the lowest points on land, and temperatures regularly exceed 45°C year-round! But even here, life is found!
