Diabolical Ironclad Beetle
(Phloeodes diabolicus)

Feeds on Fungi found on decaying trees.

Lives for around 8 years which is unusually long for a beetle.

Despite its name, unlike other creatures on this site, this "ironclad" beetle has no actual iron in its shell. Instead, the layered structure of its exoskeleton makes it extremely hard to crush! It can even survive being run over by a car since its able to withstand 39,000 times its own body weight!
