Hairy Frog
(Trichobatrachus robustus)
Native to Central Africa, specifically in fast flowing rivers, forests, and agricultural lands with coverage.
Around 8 - 13cm (4 - 5in) long.
Feeds on Slugs, Spiders, Beetles, Grasshoppers, and Myriapods.
Lives for up to 15 years.
This frog is known for breaking its own bones to form retractable "claws" as a form of defense! Its possible that these claws are also used to give this frog a better grip on rocks.

Males develop hair like structures on their sides that contain arteries. These are thought to increase the surface area to absorb more oxygen allowing it to stay underwater longer while taking care of its eggs.
