Native to 3 out of 4 of the main islands of Japan (Northern and Central Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu).

Ranges from 70 - 85cm (28 - 30in) tall.

Feeds mainly on Fleshy or Coniferous Leaves, Plant Shoots, and Acorns.

Lives for around 20 - 25 years.
