Japanese Serow

Japanese Serow
(Capricornis crispus)

Native to most of Japan's main islands, Serows are also known as goat-antelopes. They have keen senses of hearing, sight, and smell and when in danger it flees with a whistling snort!

Hunters have compared the Japanese Serow to a Ninja because of its speed and agility, capable of sprinting up mountains and jumping from cliff to cliff!

Did you know that the Serow is actually seen as a national symbol in Japan? It actually went through a special conservation effort after it was nearly hunted to extinction. Now it's listed as "least concern" on the Red List of Threatened Animals.
