Markhor
(Capra falconeri)
Found in the mountains of Central Asia and the western Himalayas, the Markhor is a wild goat with one of the most dramatic sets of horns in the animal kingdom — long, tightly spiralling corkscrews that can reach over 1.5 metres in length on males.
Its name actually means "snake eater" in Persian, likely referring either to the snake-like twist of its horns or to folklore that it kills snakes — neither of which reflects its actual diet as a herbivore!
