Painted Bat

Painted Bat
(Kerivoula picta)

Found across South and Southeast Asia, the Painted Bat is arguably the most vividly coloured bat in the world, with striking black and bright orange-red fur that looks almost artificial. The colouring is thought to mimic dead leaves and dried vegetation as a form of camouflage while it roosts.

While foraging, it flies in a distinctive fluttering pattern, which is also why they’re sometimes called the “butterfly bat.”
