Pamukkale
(Turkey / Türkiye)
Located in southwestern Turkey, Pamukkale — meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish — is a natural site of cascading white terraces formed by calcium-rich thermal waters flowing down the hillside and depositing travertine over thousands of years. The result is a landscape of gleaming white terraced pools filled with warm turquoise water, perched dramatically above the surrounding plain.
It has been a site of human use since antiquity — the ancient Greek city of Hierapolis was built directly above it, and its ruins still stand alongside the pools today!
