Sungrebe
(Heliornis fulica)
Found along rivers and lakes in Central and South America, the Sungrebe has one of the most unusual parental strategies of any bird — the male has a small pouch of skin beneath each wing, and carries the chicks inside them even during flight. This means the young can be airlifted to safety at a moment's notice, making the Sungrebe the only bird known to fly with chicks tucked under its wings!
