Found all over the world in tropical and warm-temperate seas.
Ranges from 8 - 9m (26 - 30ft). The largest confirmed individual had a length of 18.8m (61.7ft).
Whale Shark
(Rhincodon typus)
Feeds on Plankton, Krill, Fish Eggs, and small schooling Fish.
Lives for around 80 - 130 years.
Each whale shark has a unique fingerprint-like pattern of spots and stripes on their back. Because of this, scientists don’t need to use trackers to identify one from another, instead they can use photo identification to track migration and population sizes!
