Zombie-Ant Fungus

Zombie-Ant Fungus
(Ophiocordyceps unilateralis)

Found in tropical forests across the world, this fungus infects carpenter ants, hijacking their behavior with extraordinary precision: compelling them to climb to a specific height on vegetation, clamp down with their mandibles at a precise time of day, and die in the ideal location for the fungus to grow and release spores onto the colony below. The fungus does not infect the ant's brain — it controls its muscles directly, making the ant's body a puppet while the ant itself may still be conscious.
